The truth on proper Septic System Maintenance.
Everyday we get calls from people who have no clue on what is the proper and correct way to maintain your Septic, Septic Tank, Septic and Cesspool or Septic Tank and Drain field.
It's simple. If you wait for the downstairs toilet to back up then call to have it pumped, you are asking for a new septic system. When your septic system backs up so badly that it stops the normal operation of a lower toilet or drain, either you have waited too long for service to it, you have been having a ongoing problem and thinking that it will fix itself will happen ( That does not happen) or use your onsite septic system beyond what it was designed for, YOU are abusing it. Simple. Yes it is that simple.
As a Septic system owner, if YOU want to make your septic system work
the best, it has to have time to do what it was designed to do, and
break down waste to a environmentally friendly waste product. With any
septic system, TIME is your friend. The longer and less water you use in
the home, the better your septic system will operate.
Water is your enemy. The more you use, the more service you will need. Simple. There are no magic cures to bringing back a backed up or failed septic system other then TIME AND THE LACK OF USE OF WATER.
All septic systems need air! Your septic system is a living and breathing system. If your Inspection Port is covered up, YOU are killing it. If your septic pumping company covers it up, that is a STRONG INDICATION of their LACK OF EDUCATION , and I would not call them back .....EVER. A Inspection Port installed by us that we raise to grade ( So you can still cut your grass without problems), YOUR septic system gets some of the air it needs to operate and dry out. There will be no smells unless your septic system is in bad shape. Lack of fresh air into your septic system is a killer of septic systems!
This is just a few tips on how to keep your septic system operating healthy and cheaply. When you do not care about your septic system that is when you will be spending more money they you should if you just took care of it from the start.
